Sometimes, one or more of those glowing, pulsating red-black ancients will spawn in the region, and that can get annoying very quickly. Hiding behind cover and sniping may work, but I prefer to be constantly moving while hitting it with a pulse laser. The guardian will attack you with homing projectiles, which can take down my interceptor's shield and half my hull with one wave, so be careful. It only has a shield and no hull, so you'll do well to keep your distance and use shield killing weapons on it (pulse laser, coil gun, fusion blaster, shock rifle).
